How to Make Your Fuel Go Further…

Posted by admin

For many of us, going to the petrol station to fill up the tank is an agonising task. With petrol and diesel fuel prices soaring, a twenty pound fill won’t get you as far as it would have five years ago. With that in mind, here are a few tips on how to save some pennies by being fuel wise;

1)    Limit your Speed

Everyone seems to be in a hurry these days, whizzing up and down the motorway, however, think about how much fuel they are burning. These drivers may think they are saving time, but in the long run, it will cost in fuel. If you limit your speed to 60mph you will gain the maximum fuel efficiency from your vehicle. Make sure you leave plenty of time for the journey in order to avoid the need to put your foot down.

2)    Try Not to Get Lost

With Sat-Navs and hundreds of mobile phone apps, it is now easier to get around than ever before. Plan your journey ahead if you can, and write down the directions in case technology decides to fail! You can waste miles of fuel by getting lost, so it’s advisable to plan ahead and keep a UK and a local roadmap in your vehicle at all times.

3)    Switch off the AC

Air conditioning in a car uses the drive belt of the engine to rate the compressor, which in theory sees it use about as much fuel as an additional 65kg or one person. This can potentially mount up to a lot of fuel, so open your windows when you can as the fresh air is better for ventilation and will save those all important pennies!

4)    Keep your Car in Check

It helps to ensure that your car is always in good condition, so make sure the tyre pressure is correct and all parts of the car are serviced and in full working order.

These are just a few tips on how to save on fuel, but remember, if it’s just a short journey, take a brisk walk if you can. It’s better for the environment and for your pocket! As experts in all things fuel and oil related, w at R. Stiff & Sons hope this information will be useful to you on your travels in the future!
